RSS influence in Kerala police: major reshuffle in Malappuram

Amid allegations of RSS influence in the Kerala police, with PV Anwar, a legislator from the ruling LDF government, claiming to have evidence to prove a nexus between the police and RSS, citing cases and their involvement in implicating people, particularly in Malappuram district, the government has ordered the transfer of police officials.

In a reshuffle within the Kerala Police Department, Malappuram Superintendent of Police (SP) S Sasidharan and seven Deputy Superintendents have been transferred.

Anwar has accused Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Ajith Kumar and former SP Sujith Das of involvement in criminal activities. The controversy intensified after Anwar publicly criticised SP Sasidharan, leading to his transfer.

Sasidharan has been reassigned to the Vigilance & Anti-Corruption Bureau in Ernakulam Range, while Viswanadh R, previously Assistant Inspector General of Police (Personnel), will assume the role of Malappuram District police chief.

The reshuffle also includes changes in other key positions. CH Nagaraju (IPS) is set to replace A Akbar as the new Transport Commissioner, with Akbar moving to the role of Inspector General of Police, Crimes-II in Ernakulam.

Additionally, Kochi City Police Commissioner S Syamsundar has been appointed Inspector General of Police for the South Zone, and Putta Vimaladitya has been assigned as Deputy Inspector General of Police and Commissioner of Police for Kochi City.

The transfers come amid serious allegations against ADGP Kumar, including involvement in gold smuggling, illegal phone tapping, and even murders. Anwar also disclosed phone call recordings between himself and former SP Sujith Das, revealing an alleged criminal network.

Following these revelations, Sujith Das has been suspended, and an investigation team led by the Director General of Police (DGP) has been formed to probe the allegations against ADGP Kumar and other officials.

Criticism has been directed at Chief Minister and Home Minister Pinarayi Vijayan from the Opposition for not taking immediate action against ADGP Kumar amidst the ongoing investigation.
