Thiruvananthapuram: Jailed Youth Congress state president Rahul Mamkootathil has sent a lawyer notice to CPM state secretary MV Govindan, demanding Rs 1 crore in compensation for his 'fake' medical certificate allegation and also an apology for his defamatory statement.
Govindan had alleged that Rahul produced a fake certificate to get bail and that efforts were being made to cover up the failure and make him a hero.
The Youth Congress had earlier stated that they would proceed with legal action against MV Govindan's allegations against Rahul. The Youth Congress State Committee informed that a notice has been sent to MV Govindan through Adv Mridul John demanding a compensation of Rs 1 crore.
Rahul was arrested from his house in Pathanamthitta district on Tuesday in connection with violence during the Youth Congress' Secretariat march in December last year.
Rahul moved a bail plea, citing a medical certificate about his ailment. The court asked him to undergo a medical checkup, which found him to be fit. He was subsequently sent to judicial custody.
Govindan on Wednesday said that Rahul had produced a fake medical certificate to get bail.
The State Committee also informed that if he did not apologize by calling a press conference within seven days, strong legal action would be initiated.
