Kozhikode/Kerala: A charge sheet has been filed against actor and former Rajya Sabha MP from Kerala Suresh Gopi in the case of insulting a woman journalist. Nadakavu Police filed the same in the Kozhikode Judicial First Class Magistrate Court.
Suresh Gopi, who became MP with a BJP ticket, has been charged under IPC section 354 (Assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 119A under the Police Act. The fresh charge sheet was filed after making corrections to the charge sheet issued on February 26.
The case is that Suresh Gopi misbehaved with the journalist while talking to the media on October 27 in the lobby of a hotel in Kozhikode. While he was being asked questions about his contesting Lok Sabha elections, he allegedly put his hand over the journalist’s shoulder. Even after she tried to move away, Suresh Gopi allegedly repeated his act, and she threw his hand away.
The journalist filed a complaint with the City Police Commissioner demanding a case against Suresh Gopi, who insulted women and behaved with bad intentions. As the incident took place within the limits of Nadakav station in Kozhikode, the complaint was handed over to Nadakav police.
After the incident became controversial, Suresh Gopi said that he had treated the journalist with affection and apologized if she had suffered mental distress, but the complainant went ahead with the case.
