Kozhikode: A migrant worker claiming to be from West Bengal was rescued from inside a drain in Kozhikode on Saturday after being discovered by a passerby. The circumstances surrounding how he ended up inside the covered drain remain unclear and have puzzled rescue personnel.
According to fire force officials, the man claimed that he had been trapped inside the drain for the past couple of days and alleged that a magician had put him there through magic.
"There is something suspicious and mysterious about how he got inside it. There is no open manhole or slab nearby from where he could have entered or fallen into the drain. He was also dressed only in trousers," a fire force official said.
The official added that the man repeatedly claimed he had been placed inside the drain by a magician.
Rescue personnel used a hydraulic machine to lift one of the concrete slabs covering the drain before pulling the man to safety.
The worker was first noticed by a passerby who spotted a hand emerging through a small opening in the drain and immediately alerted authorities.
Following the alert, fire force personnel rushed to the spot and successfully carried out the rescue operation.
Officials said the exact circumstances that led to the man being found inside the drain remain a mystery.
