Kottayam: Award winning novelist and noted author KR Meera has said that she declines to assume her role as member of Board of Studies in Mahatma Gandhi University, as she is busy with novel-writing and translation work.

She explained that ever since she switched to a full-time writing career, her decision has been to not accept any posts of state or central governments made as a political nomination, and would stick to that stand in future too.

Therefore, she said in her Facebook post addressing her friends in the media, she has conveyed her resignation from the yet-to-be-intimated appointment to the Board of Studies, which she has not applied for either. Meera added that she has written to the Vice Chancellor of the university to this effect.

Although there was an invitation from the University to become a member on the Board of Studies, there has not been any subsequent letter or email, and she has not so far received any money in this regard. If there was any political interference in the matter, she would never accept such postings. Her clarification comes in the wake of an allegation that the writer was appointed to the board bypassing rules and procedures.

Her Facebook post also states that although she had been offered several official posts by the right and left fronts, she had insisted on not accepting any political nominations.
