Kerala's daily COVID tally crosses 30k mark, TPR inches close to 20%

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported  31,445 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday taking the test positivity rate to 19.03 per cent, according to a state govt release. The last time the TPR crossed 19 per cent was in May this year.

The day also saw a new high of 215 deaths, taking the death toll to 19,972.

Around 20,271 people had turned negative of the infection since Tuesday, taking the total recoveries to 36,92,628. The number of active cases is 1,70,292.

The day's figures came out a few hours after the Leader of Opposition V.D.Satheesan demanded Vijayan to break his silence as Covid is raging in the state. Satheesan had said that they have no intention to politicise this issue and all they want is that the suffering of the people should end as it has happened in other states.

Among districts, Ernakulam recorded the highest number with 4,048 cases, followed by Thrissur (3,865), Kozhikode (3,680), Malappuram (3,502), Palakkad (2,562), Kollam (2,479), Kottayam (2,050), Kannur (1,930) Alappuzha (1,874), Thiruvananthapuram (1,700), Idukki (1,166) Pathanamthitta (1,008) and Wayanad (962).

Currently, 4,70,860 people are under surveillance in various districts, of which 4,44,278 are at home or under institutional quarantine and 26,582 are in hospitals.
