Kerala to withdraw statewide lockdown from June 17

Thiruvanathapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday informed that the state will withdraw it's statewide lockdown from June 17, while region specific restrictions will prevail accordingly.

The decision was taken after a high-level meeting that reviewed the inform lockdown in the state for the last 38 days. The decision to ease the restrictions was taken after noticing a fall in the daily Covid cases and Test positivity rate (TPR) in the state.

On Monday, the state had reported 7,719 fresh cases against 68,573 tests conducted, recording a TPR of 11.2 per cent.

As per the new strategy, the state plans to classify the local-self governments according to their infection rates.

However, the government is yet to reveal the detailed plan for the coming days to tackle the virus.
