The 18-year-old Suchetha Satish from Kerala, India, has officially entered the Guinness World Records by singing in over 140 languages during the Concert for Climate event held in Dubai on November 24, 2023.
Suchetha, who is no stranger to breaking linguistic barriers with her musical prowess, shared the exciting news on Instagram, expressing her gratitude and attributing her success to divine grace.
The official Guinness World Records website confirmed that her achievement marked the "most languages sung in a concert," with the number 140 chosen symbolically to represent the 140 nations attending the COP 28 summit in Dubai.
The Consulate General of India in Dubai congratulated Suchetha on Twitter, applauding her remarkable achievement and acknowledging her contribution to the cultural and musical landscape. The tweet read, "Congratulations @SatishSuchetha on your remarkable achievement of setting a new Guinness World Record of singing in 140 languages in a concert @cgidubai. Way to go!"
In an exclusive interview with DD India News, Suchetha, who is currently capable of singing in 150 languages, expressed her joy and feeling of being blessed to set this new record.
She shared insights into the inspiration behind the Concert for Climate, stating, "As a multilingual musician whose motto is ‘Music Beyond Borders,’ [I] thought of what I could do to spread awareness about climate preservation, and that’s how we came up with this concert."
This isn't Suchetha's first time in the record books; she previously set a record in 2018 by singing in 102 languages at the Indian Consulate Auditorium in Dubai. In 2021, she surpassed her own achievement by singing in 120 languages during a program titled "Music Beyond Borders."
Her father, speaking to the Khaleej Times in 2018, revealed Suchetha's meticulous approach to learning and performing songs in various languages. He explained that she selects songs she likes, checks the lyrics, and uses Google Translate to understand the meaning. Despite not knowing all the languages, she ensures perfect diction and tune in her renditions.
