Kochi: Renowned film editor Nishadh Yusuf was discovered dead in an apartment here early on Wednesday, according to authorities. At around two in the morning, the 43-year-old film editor, who was from Haripad in the Alappuzha district, was discovered in a Panampilly Nagar flat.
A police officer said that the incident is suspected to be a case of suicide. He, however, did not provide further details.
Yusuf's body was handed over to the family after postmortem, PTI reported.
A Kerala State Film Award winner for Best Editor in 2022, Yusuf's notable works include "Thallumaala", "Chaaver", "Unda", "Saudi Vellakka", "One", "Operation Java", "Bazooka", and "Kanguva".
"Kanguva" star Suriya said he was heartbroken to hear about Yusuf's death.
"You'll always be remembered as a quiet and important person of team 'Kanguva'... In our thoughts and prayers..! My heartfelt condolences to Nishadh's family & friends. RIP," Suriya posted on X.
Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan also condoled Yusuf's death.
Studio Green, the production banner behind "Kanguva", mourned Yusuf's death in a social media post. "We are deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of our beloved editor, #NishadYusuf.
"Your talent, dedication and vision were invaluable assets to our team and your absence leaves us with a profound void. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends during this difficult time #RIPNishadYusuf," the studio posted on X.
Yusuf won the Best Editor State Award for his work on "Thallumaala".
