Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Police have launched an investigation after a hoax email warning of explosions at collectorates and courts across the state was received by a District Collector in Rajasthan, officials said on Saturday.
The Thiruvananthapuram City Cyber Police registered a case on Friday and initiated a probe into the incident.
According to police, the email was sent on May 6 to the official email ID of the Bikaner District Collector in Rajasthan. Written in Hindi, the message claimed that blasts would take place at courts and collectorates across Kerala.
Following the alert from the Rajasthan Police, security checks were carried out at multiple locations in Kerala. The threat was later confirmed to be a hoax.
Acting on directions from the Kerala Police Headquarters, the Cyber Police launched an investigation to trace the person responsible for sending the email.
Police officials suspect that the email may have been generated using a dark web platform, and further investigation is underway.
The case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Information Technology Act, and the Kerala Police Act, police said.
