Idli takes life of man during eating competition in Palakkad

A joyous competition ended in tragedy in Kanjikode, Palakkad district, Kerala, after a man lost his life when an idli got stuck in his throat during an eating competition as part of the Onam celebrations.

The deceased, identified as Suresh, 50, from Alamaram, Palakkad, was taking part in an idli-eating contest organised by local youths in Nalamaram, Kollapura, as part of Onam celebrations.

According to reports, Suresh attempted to consume three idlis simultaneously and began to show signs of distress. He was promptly transported to a nearby private hospital.

Due to his critical condition, he was later transferred to another hospital in Walayar, where he was declared dead upon arrival. The body is currently at the hospital pending a postmortem examination.

Suresh was employed as a truck driver. The police have initiated an investigation into the incident, registering a case of unnatural death.
