Thiruvananthapuram: Samvarana Samudaya Munnani (Reservation communities confederation) on Thursday has urged the state government to refrain from the implementation of forward caste reservation until the Supreme Court's five-member constitutional bench decides on the appeals.
The confederation of the reservation communities put forward its demand at a dharna staged in front of the secretariat to protest the undermining of the reservation under the pretext of forward caste reservation. Leaders of nearly thirty reservation communities took part in the dharna.
"The forward caste reservation in courses including MBBS and B-tech should be suspended from this year until the Supreme Court's verdict. Fixing of percentage of reservation for forward caste as ten percent of the total seats is against the principles of the existing reservation policy", the confederation said.
Samvarana Samudaya Munnani president V. Dinakaran (Deevara Sabha), general secretary NK Ali (MEKA), S. Kuttappan Chettiyar (MBSF), B. Subhash Bose (Kerala Manpatra Nirmana Samudaya Sabha), Shaji George, VR Joshi, Sajid Khalid, KP Chellappan and others spoke.
