Kozhikode: Dalit thinker and orator Dr K S Madhavan received a show-cause-notice from Calicut University for his article published in Madhyamam. The article, co-written by Madhavan and Prof PK Poker, regarding the running attempts to undermine the reservation system in universities in the country, infuriated the CPM dominated syndicate and university.
In the memo Madhavan received on Friday, the university asked him to show cause if he did not wish to face actions as per the Kerala Services Rules since he maligned the university.
Madhavan and Poker wrote in the article that universities in the country are centres of caste discrimination towards Dalits, tribals, and Muslim minorities. The vengeful action is passed against the writer even as there is strong criticism brewing around the university regarding the irregularities in the appointment to faculty positions by the CPM-dominated syndicate.
The university referred to a line from the article stating that the National Commission for Scheduled Castes had asked for the university's explanation regarding irregularities in faculty appointment. The article also called for a judicial investigation regarding the issue.
Madhavan said that what is there in the article has been a matter of discussion and has been written about for years. It is the government's policy to implement the reservation system transparently. Universities across India routinely overturn reservation policies. He and Prof Poker only wrote what they have researched for years, and none of this tarnishes the university but only suggests measures to rectify mistakes, he added.
