Circle Inspector of the Aluva police station, CL Sudhir, who was named in the suicide note of 21-year-old law student Mofiya Parveen, has been named in several other complaints.
Mofiya had filed a complaint of domestic violence against her husband Muhammad Suhail, and his parents - Yusuf and Rukhia. She and her family were called to the police station hours before her death. The police's version says that the CI reprimanded her for slapping Suhail at the station.
Her family alleged that the CI tried to broker a compromise over the issue. Mofiya's father Dilshad said that CI Sudhir was rude to her and made her feel dejected. The CI made her feel like she was the perpetrator, reported The News Minute.
Mofiya explicitly stated in her suicide note that action must be taken against CI Sudhir. This has been ignored so far.
Another woman, a victim of domestic abuse and dowry harassment, has also alleged that the CI treated her in a threatening manner. She alleged that she went to the station on a Saturday night to file a complaint against her in-laws for throwing her out of the house but had to wait till Sunday morning.
She said that CI Sudhir behaved rudely, used a threatening voice, and said 'edi' in a booming voice. She added that she was scared of him and waited 18 hours. He did not even register an FIR of the incident, reported Mathrubhumi.
CI Sudhir was also under scrutiny for not gathering proper evidence in the murder of Uthra, a woman who was killed by her husband using a snakebite. The Kollam Rural police filed a report with the Director-General of Police of his lapses. Sudhir was the CI of the Anchal police station, Kollam, at the time.
He was also part of a controversy in June 2020 after a couple was found dead in Paripally. When the relatives brought the body to the Anchal Police station to sign the request for postmortem, he allegedly asked them to bring the body to his house instead, reported The News Minute.
