New Delhi: After Anil K Antony, son of Congress veteran AK Antony, joined BJP, Congress released bottled-up frustration slamming Anil saying that he betrayed his father on Maundy Thursday.
Maundy Thursday is the Thursday before Easter, commemorating Jesus Christ's last supper with his disciples.
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee head K Sudhakaran said, "Today (Maundy Thursday) is the day of Judas (Iscariot), who betrayed Jesus Christ for a payment of 30 silver coins. Many such things will happen on that day. This (Anil joining BJP) should also be seen as such an incident," PTI quoted him.
Sudhakaran further said that Anil was not given any party responsibilities and, there, his joining BJP is not a matter of concern for Congress.
Anil Antony joined BJP, claiming that he could not support the Congress' stand on the controversial BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He joined the saffron party on Thursday in New Delhi, where Union ministers Piyush Goyal and V Muraleedharan were present.
To the question of whether he had consulted his father on his joining the BJP, he said that it is not about personalities but the difference in opinion and ideas. He added that he strongly believes that he has taken the right step, but his respect towards his father will remain the same.
Meanwhile, AK Antony, the former defence minister, expressed his disappointment, saying that his son was wrong to join BJP and he is pained.
India's base is unity and secularism, and religious harmony, while the Modi government, which came to power in 2014, has diluted diversity and secularism, ANI reported.
