Alappuzha: Vishwambharan, a resident of Pazhaveedu in Alappuzha, has emerged as the winner of the Kerala Vishu Bumper 2024 lottery, securing the first prize worth Rs 12 crore.
Winning the lottery was a stroke of immense luck for Vishwambharan. He learned that he had won the jackpot last night. He usually buys ten to twenty lottery tickets each month. Upon hearing that the winning ticket was sold in Alappuzha, he decided to check his tickets. To his astonishment, he discovered that he had won, Mathrubhumi reported.
At the time of the win, Vishwambharan possessed a collection of lottery tickets worth around Rs 5000. A retired CRPF soldier now working as a security guard, he has been buying lottery tickets for the last five or six years. He regularly sets aside about Rs 500 each month from his budget to buy lottery tickets. This time, he bought two bumper tickets and struck gold with one of them.
"Now I don't have to bow down to anyone for the rest of my life. It's God's gift," Vishwambharan remarked after presenting the winning ticket, VC 490987.
