Thiruvanathapuram:There is no clarity yet of who among the arriving expats will have to pay for the institutional quarantine.

The debate started after the chief minister stating all expats will have to bear the cost. He later in the face of criticism he backed away exempting the poor.

No order and guidelines have yet been issued regarding this, causing confusion and leading recently to stranding new arrivals at Nedumbassery airport.

Now the question is how to identify the poor.

Most expats make to their home on tickets purchased with borrowed money and their visas got expired.

Sources say qurentine facilities would be arranged to them on daily rent from rupees 500 to 10,000.

Seven days quarantine will cost 3500 at the rate of Rs 500 a day.

In his press meet on Thursday the Chief Minister said that facilities gratis until the order is issue regarding who will have to pay.

He also added that the poor would be exempted.
