Separate toilet for Brahmins: following row, wall sign painted out

Thrissur: A temple, controbed by Kochin Dewasom board lauded for employing non-Brahmin priest, is in the news for elitist attitude.  

Kuttumuk Mahadev temple, under the CPM-controlled Dewasom board, has a separate toilet for Brahmins marked with a wall sign.  

As the wall sign “Brahmins” went viral on social media, DYFI activists lodged a complaint and has the sign painted over. Dewasom board said that the matter would be probed.  

The issue snowballed as it became known that CPM leader A B Mohanan is the board president.

The temple authorities claimed that the wall sign is not new, and is extant from the time when the temple had been built years ago.

There is no such segregation here, and it went unnoticed, authorities said.

Somebody attending the temple the festival posted the image of toilets marked with ladies, gents and Brahmins on social media.

The image went viral in a trice, kicking up a row online. Taking note of the incident, DYFI activists turned up at the office, and protested.
