Thiruvananthapuram: On the second day of lockdown on Wednesday, police got tough on those ventured out defying the strictures.
At places vehicles were seized and some got arrested, which often led to scuffle with police.
At least a few complained of police beating them for coming out for basic needs.
They were said to have been beaten up without even asking why they had come out.
As many as 2535 people including SFI Thiruvanathpuram district secretary were arrested for defying lockdown.
Two youths who attacked police were arrested in Perumbavoor.
About four thousand cases were registered for breaking lockdown strictures in two days.
Police let off many on bail after seizing their vehicles, which would be released after 21 days.
After police got tough on those venturing, roads and streets deserted.
Police in Thiruvanathapuram decided to cancel the registration of those came out without purpose. This may well be extended to other districts too.
Vehicle numbers of venturesome drivers are being collected, and breaking two warnings will forfeit registration.
Those working in essential service should possess identity cards and pass. Many approached police for pass.
Those traveling in private vehicles should submit affidavit to continue. After examining it would be returned. The driver has to self-attest the affidavit, Said the police chief.
