Collector intervened, CITU meeting wrapped up.

Thrissur: District collector on Thursday sought details from CITU leaders immediately after receiving a complaint about the outfit convening its council at Sahitya Academy Hall here. 

Not long afterwards, the council having over 700 attendees was disbanded.

Organizers had readied in the hall precautions including masks in the wake of COVID-19 situation.  

CITU national secretary KK Divakaran inaugurated the meeting. It was then KSU complained the Collector of the meeting.

The council meeting kicked up row as it was held disregarding the government directives against public gatherings.

CITU district Secretary UP Joseph told media that volunteers were on the front of COVID-19 prevention works.

More volunteers would be allocated as required; and also, he said that several businesses and establishments including railways, KSRTC, media were working as normal.

There is no situation to lockdown everything.  The stand of CITU is avoid courting dangers through carelessness, he said.  

Actions should be taken against those including media for causing unnecessary panic, he said.
