One dead, 65 new cases take Kerala positive cases to 1238

Thiruvananthapuram: One more person died in Kerala due to Covid-19 and 65 fresh cases were registered, taking the total number of active cases in the state to 1,238, health officials said on Wednesday.

A total of 907 patients have been cured of the disease so far.

An 87-year-old man died in Thrissur on Sunday but his result came on Wednesday which was positive and with this the total number of deaths due to Covid has risen to 17.

In a related development on Wednesday, two people, one, who was Covid positive and later turned negative was found hanging in his room, while another person who was a Covid suspect and under isolation was also found hanging at the isolation room of the Medical College hospital, here.

State Health Minister K.K. Shailaja informed the media that of the 65 fresh cases, 34 came from abroad, while 25 were those who came from within the country. There were five local infections.

"Currently there are 210,592 under observation in homes, institutions and includes 1,844 in hospitals. By now 207,194 people have come from abroad and from within the country by rail or road," said Shailaja.

With the addition of five more hotspots in the state, the total number of hotspots touched 163.

The Police registered 608 cases and recorded the arrest of 690 people and 233 vehicles were impounded for lockdown violation.
