CPM to have truck with Jose faction; Kanam takes a dig

Thiruvananthapuram:  LDF finds itself in a political limbo where it can’t have its cake and eat it too.

The situation emerged following Jose faction’s quitting of UDF after it had decided not to give up Kottayam district Panchayat presidency.

As political future of Jose faction is still in quandary, CPM secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and LDF convenor A. Vijayaraghavan made welcoming gestures yesterday.

However, no sooner did they make it than CPI Secretary Kananam Rajendran openly opposed the move.

In his article in the party organ, Kodiyeri placed Kerala congress as a winning factor of UDF and its absence would weaken the alliance. He nearly gave hope to  the dissident faction.

A Vijayaraghavan said the alliance would discuss Jose faction’s entry to LDF.

However, Kanam Rajendran came down saying that LDF is better off returning to power without Jose faction and he wished LDF had not spoiled it.

Jose faction was just turned out of the class but not yet expelled from school, he said, adding that LDF was not likely to take in the faction even if it appears with a compulsory TC.

He took a dig at Jose faction’s poor performance at Pala bi poll saying “ we know its popular support’.

However, he hoped that the issued would not develop into a confrontation between CPM and CPI.

NCP’s Mani C Kapan welcomed Jose faction but sent the message that the seat won in 52 years would not be asked to give up.

Jose K Mani said that LDF leaders’ favourable words indicate his faction’s strengths at grassroots.

No decision about joining the alliance has yet been taken, and the matter has not been discussed with anybody either, he said.
