No complete lockdown again in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: The state will not declare another complete lockdown,  the cabinet meeting held in the capital today has decided.

However,  in areas with higher rate of virus spread,  stricter restrictions will be imposed.  The cabinet decision was arrived at after considering the comments and suggestions at the all-party meeting held last week and proposals by experts.

It has also been decided to ensure stronger police presence in containment zones. Decisions regarding opening of shops will be decided by relative district administrations together with respective ministers in charge of the district.

The crucial consideration that weighed on the decision of the cabinet about the lockdown was the expert committee's recommendation that another lockdown will put the people in hardship.

A consensus was also reached at the cabinet that since the assembly session has been put off, an ordinance should be issued to extend the time for passing the finance bill.

Today's special cabinet meeting was held through video conferencing,  a first in the history of the state.
