Thiruvananthapuram: The team probing the gold smuggling case says higher-ups helped Swapna Suresh and Sandeep Nair get away from Kerala.

Probe is on surrounding the phone calls to find out the contacts of the smugglers

Both NIA and Customs have garnered evidence regarding Swapna’s frequent calls to top police officials.

There were phone calls made to abroad as well. Measures are on to list higher-ups who have been in close contact with the culprits.

Also, the investigators would ascertain whether the culprits had received any help from those in the list.

NIA has put Swapna’s three mobile phones under observation since Thursday. Call details for a month of two of her three phones have been collected, hinting at her contacts with higher-ups.

Both customs and the police also collected her phone details.

It is found that calls were made to the number of former Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, M. Sivasankar.

Swapna made calls to many key police officials as well; most calls were for official purposes.

Investigators suspect whether the international calls were part of planning the gold smuggling.

It is known that examining of Swapna’s call details has increased pulse rate of many politicians.
