Malayalam film Ekadesham set to world premiere at Filmfest Aachen 2026

Kochi: Following the critical acclaim for Family, filmmaker Don Palathara’s latest Malayalam feature Ekadesham (The Uncertainty Principle) is set for its world premiere at Filmfest Aachen 2026 in Germany.

The film will be screened in the festival's competition section, scheduled to take place in Aachen from September 23 to 27. The international premiere will mark the film’s first presentation to audiences outside India, with the makers expecting it to subsequently travel to other major festival platforms.

Set in Kochi, Ekadesham follows a group of young people as they attempt to build their lives around cinema. Against the backdrop of uncertain employment, relationships, and personal compromises, the film explores their efforts to find a place for themselves as they navigate the instability of contemporary life.

Presented by Artisan Films, the movie is Palathara’s seventh feature. Roshan Mathew, Jithin Puthenchery, Divya Prabha, Vinay Forrt, Arsha Baiju and Mahesh Narayanan play key roles. Shanti Balachandran, Kenshin, Sherin Catherine, Parvathy Ayyappadas, Jain Andrews and Arun Cherukavil are also part of the cast.

Palathara has handled the writing, direction and editing. Ramith Kunjimangalam is the associate cinematographer, while Art Kunjeri serves as associate director. Basil C.J. has composed the music, with Adarsh Joseph Palattam and Mohammed Sajid handling location sound.

Dan Jose is credited with sound mixing, and Arun Varma with sound design. Sreekumar Nair is the colourist, while Dileepdas has handled publicity design.

The film’s festival journey begins with its world premiere in Aachen.
