After CAA, Kerala govt now decides not to implement NPR

Kochi : The Kerala government on Monday decided not to implement the National Population Register (NPR) in the state.

Recently the government moved Supreme Court against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), alongside passing a resolution against the law.

However the state will conduct the Census as per norms, and its decision not to implement NPR would be informed the Census Registrar General

Last week, the Kerala General Administration Department had directed all officials not to mention NPR in communications on Census 2021.

There have been speculations on social media over the implementation of NPR in Kerala.

Addressing anti-CAA rally, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that Kerala would not implement CAA, NRC and NPR in the state.

In a new development, BJP leader Kummanam Rajasekharan approached the Supreme Court seeking the dismissal of a Kerala government plea against the CAA.
