Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan address the representatives of LKS
"Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister urged Loka Kerala Sabha to push the Central government for a comprehensive emigration policy. He criticised the BJP Government at the Centre for not paying attention to the issues faced by Indian diaspora.
Pinarayi urged the Union Government to address the shortcomings of the proposed emigration laws to make it safer and free from exploitation.
Loka Kerala Sabha (LKS), a platform for Keralite diaspora, began its second edition with representatives from 47 countries. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in his inaugural speech moved a policy paper to address the needs of expatriates in the changing scene of emigration.
The CM also said that the LKS could serve as a vital link to utilise the expertise of scientists, technocrats, academicians, economists and other highly skilled workers abroad for the State’s progress.
In his inaugural speech, lauding the State government for constituting the LKS, Governor Arif Mohammed Khan said that it held immense potential in faciltating greater participation of Non-Resident Keralites (NoRKs) in the development of the State.
Speaking on the occasion, Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan said the objectives of the LKS went beyond being an investors’ meet. The platform enabled NoKRs from across the world to come together and share their unique experiences, he said.
