Governor gives nod to prosecute Ebrahim Kunju

Kochi: Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has given permission to prosecute Former Kerala Public Works Department (PWD) Minister V K Ebrahim Kunju over his alleged role in Palarivattom flyover scam.

In what has been a long time coming move, the IUML politician has to face law as Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau prosecutes him.

The minister is alleged to have allotted more funds to bridge builder than was permissible, violating norms.

The Vigilance team looking into the corruption linked to the weak bridge earlier told the High Court that his role in the scam has to be further probed.

The Kerala High Court in November, 2019 had given nod for Vigilance probe in the alleged corruption.

Former PWD secretary T O Sooraj, who is facing charges in the scam, had also raised allegations against the ex-minister.

The Vigilance’s stance is that Ibrahim Kunju cannot shy away from the responsibility.

“The minister who ordered the advance payment of the money is equally responsible under the anti-corruption laws," Vigilance had stated earlier in its affidavit in the court.

In its affidavit, Vigilance said that the minister is equally responsible as he had ordered the advance payment.
