Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala CM and Opposition entered into a showdown over Pantheerankavu UAPA case, leading to Opposition staging a walkout in the Assembly on Tuesday.
Dr. MK Muneer gave the notice for adjournment motion on controversial imposition of UAPA charges on students Alan Shuhaib and Thwaha Fazal.
Chief Minister rejected Munner’s demand for withdrawing the case from Centre based on the rule 7 (B).
Chief Minister responded vehemently saying that as per law the case could not be handed over to the state without the Centre’s consent. The demand by Opposition is tantamount to appealing to Amit Shah with a letter.
Opposition leader retorted saying that it was not to be put to Amit Shah but the demand to withdraw the case should be made to Central minister.
Chennithala took a jibe at Chief Minister saying that he should maintain the same stance of giving bouquet to Amit Shah when he became the minister.
He also poked fun at Chief Minister wondering whether it was Amit Shah or the Chief Minister who answered the query.
Chief Minister clarified that the state government had not handed over the case to NIA. The Centre took suo moto case based on the law framed by P Chidambaram, and the state government has no role in it, he said.
Muneer countered the Chief Minister’s argument by saying that the NIA took over the case after the state government had charged UAPA.
Chief Minister came down heavily saying that those who created and misused dark laws were now talking against them. They took 134 UAPA cases and NIA took over nine of them.
He asked the Opposition to make clear whether they had been asked beforehand when NIA took over those cases.
Even a political case like Kathirur Manoj murder was charged with UAPA implicating P Jayarajan, Chief Minister said.
