Sister Abhaya murder case: HC stays trial for three months

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday ordered a stay in the trial proceedings in the Sister Abhaya Murder case. The trial being carried out in the CBI Court at Thiruvananthapuram was suspended by Justice PB Suresh Kumar.

The single bench accepted the plea of the accused, as CBI had appealed the Supreme Court against an order of HC which barred the central agency from cross examining the doctors who did a narco test on the accused.

Earlier, the High Court had quashed a CBI court order which allowed cross examination of Dr. Krishnaveni and Praveen Parvathappa who did the narco test.

The order was issued on the petition filed by the accused Father Thomas Kottur and Sister Stephy who appealed against the witness examination of the doctors. The CBI court had rejected the plea of the petitioners who sought a temporary stay on the trial proceedings of the doctors as the agency had approached the Supreme Court appealing against the HC order.
