Factional feud against Surendran leaves BJP in crisis

Thiruvananthapuram: Plunging the state BJP in crisis, a faction in the state leadership openly came out against the newly appointed president K. Surendran.

Surendran’s promotion from state general secretary to presidency was a longtime coming.

The other day he took the charge of state president. However the decisions he had taken after assuming power boomeranged him.

Surendran had long been branded as part of a particular group in BJP.   The crisis escalated after he appointed new district presidents for Kannur and Kasaragod.

A group of leaders following this declared they would not accept the leadership of Surendran.

The dispute made difficult his effort to choose state office bearers. Choosing new leaders could lead to an explosion in the state leadership.

General Secretaries including AN Radhakrishnan, MT Ramesh, Shobha Surendran were reportedly not ready to assume party positions.

Meanwhile, the Central leadership is trying to sort out the dispute.
