Kerala to equip four airports to receive expats

Thiruvananthapuram: Four airports in the state are getting ready to receive gulf expats returning to the state, CM Pinarayi Vijayan said.

Airports will be equipped to detect COVID-19, he said in a video conference with representatives of Non Residential Keralites.

Malayalalees in gulf countries have long been seeking to return to the state and the state government has been holding talks with the Centre.

Expats showing no symptoms will have to be in home-quarantine for 14 days. However, in case they don’t have facility for home quarantine, the government would set up facilities.

Repatriation would be charted out in a disciplined manner, because it is impossible to bring back expats en bloc. Priority would be given to those who need immediate attention.

The state asked the Centre for a special package to rehabilitate the returning expats, CM said.
