Changanassery: The condition in the camps of inter-state labourers are not in line with the living standards of Kerala, said Crime Branch IG S. Sreejith. IG, also the state level nodal officer, said that the government and house owners, will take necessary to steps to solve the issue.
The officer was talking to the media after a visit to the camps in Payippad on Tuesday to assess the living conditions and to ensure facilities for the inter-state labourers.
Camps have enough food and essentials. Each camp is supplied with different kinds of foods which should be avoided. The government is trying to prepare the same food for all camps alike from Wednesday, he said.
Preparation of different cuisines will cause wastage and loss of food. Some of the labourers have asked for transportation to their native villages which is not feasible as of now, and they have been convinced about the lockdown situation. There will be no restriction for travel after the lockdown. Sreejith also said that the building owners have been entrusted to solve the issue of lack of mobile phone recharging facilities.
The officer, who reached the camp on Tuesday morning, talked to hundreds of labourers. He also instructed the police officers and building owners to ensure basic facilities.
