Maradu municipality to snap utility services to flats

Kochi: Just as the apartment owners at Maradu flats refuse to vacate homes, Maradu municipality is all set to snap utility services to the residents.

The municipality has reportedly asked KSEB and others service providers including Kerala Water Authority, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation and Bharat Sanch Nigam Limited to snap their supply lines.

As per the notice, KSEB has been asked to disconnect the power supply before September 27, the day the Supreme Court will pronounce its order in the case.

Municipal Secretary M. Ariff Mohammad Khan asked in a letter all service providers to remove accessories for their services.

A team led by Chief Engineer of Local Self-Government Department will assist the municipality to plan the flats’ demotion.

With apartment owners threatening to end their lives if forced out of their flats, it has become a highly sensitive issue for the authorities.  The deadlines to vacate apartments ended on September 15.
