South East monsoon to set in by mid-Oct

Thiruvananthapuram: Adding a new chapter of sorts to monsoon history, the state will see withdrawal of North East monsoon by October 15, and in its stead South East monsoon would set in.

This time round, South East Monsoon in the state would start, against usual pattern of October 20, five days earlier.

Authorities have people against heavy rains in the afternoons with lightning and thunder.

Usually the North East monsoon brings more rains to the northern parts of the state than it does to the southern parts.

North East monsoon lasts between October and December. Last year recorded 3 percent shortage in rains than was expected.

Except Ernakulum, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, there were sparse rains in other places.

This time round, the state expects 16 percent more rains, say authorities.
