IUML worker hacked to death in Tanur

Tanur: A 36-year-old man—identified as M Ishaaq, reportedly Indian Union Muslim League worker—was hacked to death here on Thursday evening.

A resident of Anchudi here, Ishaaq was attacked at 7:30 pm near a mosque in the neigbourhood of his house.

He was rushed to hospital immediately after the attack, but he didn’t survive.  

Swords and knives, believed to have been used for the attack, were recovered in the initial police probe.

IUML leadership accused 4 CPM workers of murder.

They said that the attack came unprovoked; still more, allegedly, a police team camping nearby failed to intervene.

Ishaaq is survived by his wife and children, brother and parents.  

The IUML is observing a shutdown in the town on Friday. However, The Malappuram district CPI(M) committee has denied any role in the attack.
