New Delhi: Offering relief to vehicle owners, Kerala government on Wednesday announced renewed traffic fines, reducing the previous fines based on the new Motor Vehicle Act.
The fine for using mobile phones while driving has been fixed at ₹2,000, where previously it varied between ₹1,000 and ₹5,000.
First time offence from overspeeding by a light motor vehicle is reduced to ₹1,500, contrary to the existing fines of ₹1,000 and ₹2,000.
The fines for speeding first time offence by heavy vehicles, according to the new Motor Vehicle Act, is Rs. 2000 to 4000, state govt has fixed it at Rs. 3000.
Kerala transport Minister A.K Saseendran in a letter to Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari requested flexibility to fix fines under the amended Motor Vehicles Act.
