Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday alleged that Minister KT Jaleel had intervened in the conduct of exams and preparation of question papers at APJ Abdul Kalam Technology University.
Chennithala would seek the Governor’s intervention as he is the Chancellor of the university, and he also came down heavily on Chief Minister for his silence on the issue.
The minister, according to Chennithala, had issued a direct order to KTU Vice-Chancellor without discussing the same with the university syndicate and academic council.
The order was about constituting an Examination Managing Committee (EMC) replacing the Examination Managing System (EMS), under the controller of examinations.
Following the minister’s order on November 18, 2018, the Vice-Chancellor implemented the same the next day.
Against what was previously entrusted with the controller of examinations, a six-member committee was given responsibility to prepare questions.
Earlier, the controller of examinations would choose one among the five set of questions, after scrutiny by an expert committee, for printing without opening the sealed covers, Chennithala said.
Now a six-member examination committee is in charge of preparing question papers. This could lead to loss of credibility and trust in question papers, he said.
Chennithala also said that the university dean is also given the onus of preparing question papers, which is not in the University Act.
