Rain throws life out of gear in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: Monday was a fraught day for most people in Kerala with heavy rains pounding streets and low-lying areas.

Train services were disrupted, and passengers got stranded in many stations.

After a lull, rains are back in rage waterlogging many low-lying areas across the state. Reports of landslide, inundation, and farm loss are aplenty.

As many as 17 relief camps have been set up in the state, sheltering 2809 people from 1232 families.

Four houses got destroyed completely, while 30 houses partially damaged: two in Thiruvananthapuram and Malappuram, leaving 18 partially damaged in Thiruvananthapuram; 10 houses sagged in Kollam, leaving two partially damaged.   

Ernakulum runs most number of relief camps with 11 in operation, sheltering 1600 from 724 families.

There are three camps in Kollam with 134 people, while Alapuzha has one camp sheltering 1050 people from 452 families.

The one camp in Palakkad has 25 people from nine families; the camp in Kottayam shelters 14 families.

Rains brought havoc across all districts in Kerala.
