HC says Kerala not to cremate Maoists killed in Attapadi

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Tuesday asked the state government not to cremate bodies of two Maoists Karthi and Manivasakam killed in what the police said an encounter in Attapadi.

While ordering that the bodies be preserved until further orders, the court orally observed that the government should clear the doubts as regards the incident.

The court was responding to the petition by M Murukesan and Lakshmi, relatives of the Maoists, who sought to quash order by Palakkad Sessions judge.

The relatives of Maoists in their petition alleged that the Sessions Court issued the order without examining Postmortem report. The case was posted on to Friday.

The petitioners alleged that it was custodial murder not encounter killing and argued that the police violated SC guidelines as regards encounter killing.

The court, then, ordered the state government to submit all records relating to the case including the postmortem report, while directing the state to preserve the bodies.
