Bike rider injured as police officer hurls baton at him

Thiruvananthapuram: A police officer allegedly hurled his baton at a dodging bike rider, causing the rider to lose control and thus get seriously injured.

The incident occurred in Kollam on Thursday when The motorcyclist, Siddique, 22, of Chithara lost control of his bike and collided with a car that came in from opposite direction.

Siddique sustained serious injuries and has been admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital here.

The incident happened a week after the Kerala High Court issued a warning against forceful measures to arrest two-wheeler riders without helmets.

The State Police Chief Loknath Behera has ordered a detailed probe into the incident.

Meanwhile, a civil police officer attached to the Kadakkal police station has been suspended in connection with the incident.
