Maoist killings: Mystery still fogs the incident

Palakkad: “Look at that place. Isn’t it hard to believe that they were killed in an encounter? ”, asks people living in Manjikandi to journalists.

It is hard to pick your way through the luxuriant bamboo grove to reach the place of killing.

One might be just nonplussed seeing the bivouac on the steep hill where the Maoists are said to have lived.

One couldn’t even stand upright in the 4 ft tall shelter raised on four poles standing in the dirt.

It is a wonder how four people may have lived in it for three months.

Even if giving the benefit of the doubt to the police version that Maoist fired at them, how come the police came out unharmed from machineguns that Maoist used?

What could be considered as the bullet mark at 6 ft on the nearby tree may have been fired from the place the Maoists had been.

After visiting the place, VK Sreekandan MP said that it was not possible to fire from where the Maoists had been hiding.

Following uproar on the incident, the government has ordered probe into the incident.
