Kudumbashree's Kerala Chicken into market

Kozhikode: 'Kerala Chicken', the scientifically processed chilled poultry meat of Kudumbashree will hit the markets within three months. The first phase of sale will be through air conditioned Kudumbashree showrooms.

The goal is to supply clean and quality chicken meat processed using German technology at  reasonable  rates. Kudumbashree stores, each with an area of 1000 square feet, are being arranged for this.  Prices will be lower for bulk purchases by hotels and catering units.  Besides, other meat products, egg and milk will be available in the stores.

1.40 lakh chickens, produced in regional units of Kerala Chicken Producer Company, a subsidiary of Kudumbashree, will be given to farms.  549 farms have registered for this.  Three regional breeder and slaughter units will soon start functioning.

Special waste management units will also be in place.   Programme Officer Dr. K R Nikesh Kiran told that the meat processing unit has secured ISO:22000 accreditation.

Consumers can buy meat, processed without human touch,  through the stores or online food delivery channels.   As the meat is processed and clean, it can be directly cooked, which   will benefit restaurants and catering units.

In the wake of strict food security measures, the project also aims at curbing unhygienic chicken shops.
