Thiruvananthapuram: Even if non-Kerala students seek admission in self-financing colleges in Kerala, attempts by managements to subvert merit-based medical entrance will fall through.
Both the Supreme Court and Medical Council gave nod to only merit-based entrance from NEET rank list.
As per the court directive, non-Keralite students can apply from Monday on at the website of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations.
Managements of self-financing colleges aim at pressurising the state government by opening venues for non-Keralites. Thus, they will be able to ensure entrance to community quota at will.
The court, however, has not directed to create a special any special quota for non-Keralites. They will have to be considered alongside Keralites.
The government will have complete control over entrance so long as no special quota is made for non-Keralites.
However, flow of non-Keralites might mar the prospects of home students in entrance. The low combined fee in Kerala might attract students from other states.
Also, half-a-dozen self-financing colleges in Kerala are standard in quality.
There is possibility for other-state students to choose these colleges on merit. However, the government has decided not to bow to the managements of self-financing colleges.
Managements are seeking to claim at least 10 percent of seats charging fee at will. It is highly likely that the managements might demand in the court for separate quota for non-Keralites.
