Model code of conduct is a priority for CEO

Thiruvananthapuram: Just as poll campaigning has set in the state, the enforcement of the model code of conduct (MCC) is a priority for election commission.

Earlier, Chief Electoral Officer Teeka Ram Meena’s sought political parties to desist from using Sabarimala issue in campaign debates.

Teeka Ram Meena  on Wednesday addressing a conference of political parties will tell “acting against hate speech, communally provocative online posts and bigoted discourses will be one of the topmost priorities of his office”, reports The Hindu.

The Election Commission of India (ECI)  banned political parties from discussing contentious and divisive issues relating to religion and places of worship for votes.

However, Chief Electoral Officer’s statement didn’t sit well with Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress.
