Hike in power tariff likely; No load shedding till July 15: KSEB

Thiruvananthapuram:  Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) will certainly revise the power tariff upwards shortly and but load shedding can wait a few more days.

KSEB chairman N.S. Pillai said the board will not clamp load shedding until July 15.

Making power dearer, the tariff will go up by 10 per cent from next week for residential users.

The chairman talked to the media after a meeting held to discuss the power situation   and the worst scenario of imposing load shedding.

The situation looks grim, given the fact that Kerala gets 64 million units of electricity from central grid and private sources.

Only loading shedding is the alternative in the event of these stations not providing power to Kerala, according to the chairman.

Domestic power production helps usually overcome the lack when there is a crisis; but this time round, short in rainfall may well adversely affect power generation.
