Teachers accused of spiriting away students’ laptops

Alapuzha:  Teachers in many schools are accused of snatching away laptops allotted to students, part of augmenting their studies.

Laptops, allocated as part of upgrading public schools to high-tech schools, are allegedly being spirited away by teachers.

Many schools are known to be distributing the laptops to those in the good books of the head teachers.

Recently, nine laptops were allotted to a school with most students in Alapuzha.  Following the head teacher’s announcement that laptops would be distributed among those registering first, teachers rushed to grab them; however, P.T.I intervened to foil the move.

Many schools face the same situation, thus leading to misuse of thousands of laptops in the state. In order to avail the project, schools have to prepare a well-quipped high-tech classroom as a condition.

If schools lacking in facilities arrange them, Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for education would allocate instruments.

The project, being implemented through the financial aid of KIIFB, is entrusted to KITE.

The department of education has given proper guidelines on how to use instruments to schools with high-tech labs that come by the instruments.

Much as there are guidelines, school authorities are known to be snatching away laptops.  They claim that the schools have no adequate security.

Laptop snatching stems from lack of proper checking of the facilities at schools by authorities from KITE and public education department.
