Tvm airport: govt moves for consortium with Adani onboard

Shankumugham: The state government is well on the way to form a consortium for Thiruvananthapuram Airport with Adani Group in it, sources say.

The latest moves comes as the deadline for procedure for the bid to operate the airport is to end by July 31.

The plan is for a consortium under the control of the government with investors including Adani Group and M. A. Yusuf Ali.

With Adani in the consortium, the legal hassles impeding the taking over of the airport would be over, authorities hope.

Kerala government and KSICD participated in the bid to operate the airport called by the Centre.

Adani Group came up first leaving KSICD in the second.  As per the contract, Adani Group should have taken over the airport on February 28.

The procedures for takeover had to be held up temporarily during the LS polls.

Later, Kerala chief minister met Prime Minister seeking to confer to the state the right to operate the airport.

Following this, the Civil Aviation minister stated in the Rajya Sabha that the government would take the decision without delay after studying Kerala’s submission.

Soon, the state government formed the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport Limited (TIAL) but not yet registered it.

Alongside, KSICD is directed to register TIAL as a company. Just as this moves are on, the government is all set to form the consortium with Adani Group onboard.
