No power restriction in Kerala till July 31

Thiruvananthapuram: KSEB Chairman N S Pillai said on Monday that there would not be any restriction on power in the state till July 31.  Talking to media after the state electricity board meeting, Pillai said that improvement in Monsoon prompted the decision.

Referring to weather forecast, he said that monsoon would improve and by mid-August rains at the catchment area would be more than normal level. Given this, further moves would be taken after the board meeting scheduled on August 1.

KSEB hopes to meet the state’s power requirement through local production and the power from the central pool.

However, the dams have only 12% of the total capacity, and only one third of the power consumed by the state is produced from hydel projects.
