Thiruvananthapuram: CPM is considering to appoint a special official in Delhi for the easy coordination of its transaction with the Centre.
This is depsite the arrangements currently functioning in Delhi including resident commissioner and chief minister’s office, which are meant for this end; however, the move is to make a special post beyond the purview of its current offices.
As it has not yet been discussed in LDF, it might require CPI’s nod. The CPM’s move results from the assumption that the current arrangements —resident commissioner and special officials in Delhi— are not good enough to coordinate steps to avail centre government projects for the state.
One reason behind the move is the understanding that the state government is unable to convince the centre of its requirements on a priority basis.
As a result, the state is unable to convince officials and the ministers of various departments of Kerala’s demands.
CPM state leadership also shares the same opinion in this regard. It is then the party secretariat mulled over appointing somebody with experience in Delhi to the post.
Currently, the chief minister and other ministers have to use their brief visit to Delhi to convince the Centre of the state’s requirements.
Many other states have similar officials at Delhi for easing transactions with the Centre. This helps convincing the Centre of the states’ issues well ahead.
Thus, it might help avoid ministerial visit for solving silly issues. CPM is considering former MPs including K.N. Balagopal and A. Sambath for the position.
